The Microalbuminuria test is a simple diagnostic tool that measures the amount of a protein called albumin in the urine. This test is typically used to detect early signs of kidney damage, particularly in people with diabetes or high blood pressure. Albumin is normally present in the blood, but healthy kidneys filter it out and keep it from entering the urine. However, when the kidneys are damaged, even small amounts of albumin can leak into the urine. The Microalbuminuria test is sensitive enough to detect small amounts of albumin in the urine that might not be picked up by a standard urine test. By identifying microalbuminuria early, doctors can intervene and take steps to slow or prevent further kidney damage.
